Why I built this
I value privacy. I have always been extremely careful about where, and with whom, I share my data. Until recently, I never had to deal with fake invoices, spam, or impersonation attempts.
That changed when Odido's long-neglected security policy exposed all of my information: name, email, phone number, address, and copies of my passport and driver's license. Since then, I have been targeted daily with attempts to defraud me or my family.
I drilled my family to always reach out to me whenever a suspicious email, text message, or phone call came in. That protected them. Until last week. My mom called me, a little embarrassed, to say she had fallen for a fake invoice. It came from a real, well-known medical firm, sailed straight through the spam filter, and had a simple "Pay with iDEAL" link that defrauded her of €159,38 within a minute.
The email was a 1-to-1 replica of the ones we expect from that company. The only give-away was the sender, which followed the "companyname@real-looking-but-fake-domain.nl" pattern.
With the rise of AI, I am afraid that these attempts, and their quality, will only grow exponentially. That is what prompted me to build a service that uses the same weaponry as the malicious actors: AI and strong engineering.
With this tool, not just my family but everyone can get a quick verdict on whether an email can be trusted. I hope it helps you and your family like it helps mine.
